William P. Gardner, Ph.D., serves as Senior Principal Scientist, Scientific Strategy & Analysis, for Altria Client Services (ALCS) in Richmond, Va. In this role, he leads and coordinates scientific strategies and evaluation approaches that support e-vapor product and technology development, and facilitates regulatory engagement and compliance.
 
Dr. Gardner has held a variety of positions within the Altria family of companies. He served as Principal Scientist, Applied Technology, where he led the coordination of RD&E workstreams for e-vapor technology and product development and managed the e-vapor product stability program; Planner, Strategic Product Planning, where he provided operational and strategic support; Principal Scientist, Analytical Sciences, where he led and coordinated analytical strategies and evaluation approaches that supported product development for Altria’s family of companies; and as Associate Principal Scientist, Analytical Sciences, where he led the organic, elemental and physical analysis of materials.
 
Before joining the Altria family of companies in 2001, Dr. Gardner held several research and academic roles, including working as a scientist, Geo-Centers, at the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory, Washington, D.C.,  graduate research assistant at the Department of Chemistry, American University, Washington, D.C., and as an analytical chemist, Environmental & Toxicology International, Fairfax, Va.
