Ali A. Rostami, Ph.D., Fellow of the ASME, serves as Senior Principal Scientist and Director of Modeling and Simulation within Operations Support for Altria Client Services (ALCS) in Richmond, VA. In this role, he leads the development and utilization of computational models for (1) improving manufacturing/business processes, scheduling and optimization, (2) performing innovative product design and performance analysis, (3) characterizing exposure and internal dose associated with product use and (4) data analytics and automated reporting. The modeling and simulation group supports Altria's core products, innovative reduced harm product development, and FDA engagements using advanced mathematical methods and computational techniques. 

Dr. Rostami, trained as a mechanical engineer, has extensive experience in thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, heat, mass transport and aerosol formation and dynamics. His research focus areas include computational modeling of nanoscale to macroscale phenomena involving physicochemical and biophysical processes. Before joining ALCS in 2002, Dr. Rostami held teaching, research and administrative positions in several academic and research institutes including Sharif University of Technology, Isfahan University of Technology, UC Berkeley, Lawrence Berkeley National Lab, McGill University, University of Southern Illinois, Science University of Malaysia,  and Virginia Commonwealth University. 

Dr. Rostami is a lifetime member and Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, has supervised multiple M.S. and PhD thesis, and published and presented his work extensively around the world.
