William P. Gardner
Scientific Strategy & Advocacy
William P. Gardner, Ph.D., serves as Senior Principal Scientist, Scientific Strategy & Advocacy, for Altria Client Services (ALCS) in Richmond, VA. In this role, he leads and coordinates the development and execution of scientific strategies that support regulatory submissions and engagement for non-combustible tobacco products, including oral tobacco derived nicotine and e-vapor products.
Dr. Gardner has held a variety of positions at Altria including as Sr. Principal Scientist, where he led the non-clinical evaluation approaches that supported e-vapor product and technology development, and regulatory compliance. He also served in several positions providing chemistry strategy and assessments supporting non-combustible and combustible product development.
Before joining the Altria in 2001, Dr. Gardner held several research and academic roles, including as a scientist, Geo-Centers, at the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory, Washington, D.C., a graduate research assistant at the Department of Chemistry, American University, Washington, D.C., and an analytical chemist, Environmental & Toxicology International, Fairfax, Va.
