NIDA Standardized Research Electronic Cigarette for Clinical Research

The Standardized Research Electronic Cigarette (SREC) was developed through a collaboration between NJOY, LLC (NJOY) and the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), a part of the National Institutes of Health. The primary objective of this project is to facilitate clinical research on the impact of e-cigarettes on public health.
The SREC product is currently unavailable for purchase due to an exclusion order issued by the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) in JUUL Labs, Inc.’s (JUUL) patent infringement case against NJOY. This order, which became effective on March 31, 2025, bars the importation, marketing and sale of NJOY ACE, and applies to SREC products as well. NJOY intends to appeal this decision.
Meanwhile, our teams are actively working to limit the disruption caused by this ITC action and make the SREC product available again as soon as possible. Once it becomes available, researchers will be able to submit new requests through this page. Thank you for your understanding and continued interest.
