Altria scientists participated in the 2024 Cooperation Centre for Scientific Research Relative to Tobacco (CORESTA) Congress in Scotland from October 13-17. Over the course of the week, our scientists presented their research on the role of smoke-free products in promoting harm reduction.

Josh shared his presentation “Actual Use Study of Marlboro® Heated Tobacco Stick Products Used with the Ploom® Heated Tobacco Device Among US Adults who Smoke Combustible Cigarettes.” Josh presented on a longitudinal cohort study which showed that when provided with the Ploom® System, a sizeable proportion of participants (adults who smoke combustible cigarettes) completely switched to the Ploom® System.

Jenny presented a poster entitled "Perceptions of Risk of the Marlboro Heated Tobacco Stick Products Used with the Ploom® Heated Tobacco Device among US Adults." Jenny discussed findings related to the understanding of risks and potential benefits of the Ploom® System among both intended and unintended audiences.

Jenny also shared her poster “Behavioral Intentions for Using Marlboro Heated Tobacco Stick Products with the Ploom® Heated Tobacco Device among US Adults.” She highlighted study results which suggested in the context of the proposed promotional materials, the Ploom® System may facilitate transition of adults 21+ who smoke to a smoke-free product, while having minimal impact on nonusers and underage individuals.

Sean shared his presentation “Dissolution and Physical Characterization of Oral Nicotine Pouches.” Sean’s research investigated the chemical and physical characterization of seven commercially available nicotine pouch products. The results provide a better understanding of the properties of the studied pouches and reveal significant differences in their characteristics.
